The date today is Friday, March 13, 2026
2023Essex County Council introduce a trial booking appointment scheme at all its recycling centres which includes two within the Basildon Borough, these being at Pitsea and Barleylands. The new system hopes to improve the customer experience by improving waiting times and general congestion from vehicles in the surrounding areas. If successful the trial will become permanent though there are concerns from the public that flytipping could increase as a result of the change. A trial involving selected centres had already been in place prior to todays start date.
2017Coffee producer Costa Coffee's new purpose built Roastery in Christopher Martin Road, Nevendon becomes operational. The roasting plant was built at a cost of £85 million on a site previously occupied by the automotive parts supplier Visteon UK.
