1980Savacentre, a joint enterprise between supermarket giant J. Sainsbury and British Home Stores, opens in phase one of the new Eastgate shopping centre complex in Basildon town centre. In the 2000s the store became an Asda.
1966The Who perform at the Mecca run Locarno Ballroom in Market Pavement, Basildon Town Centre. This days performance was the first of two visits the 4 piece chart act would make to the Locarno; the second would be on 2nd September, 1966.
