Laindon High Road Shops & Properties (1)
blank.gif

Laindon High Road shops, houses, businesses and public buildings between Laindon Railway Station and Victoria Road.

For the properties between Victoria Road and the A127 Fortune-of-War junction follow this link.

Please note: This is a work in progress with updates as information becomes available. Where it exists, photographic evidence of the shop nameboard has been used in the naming of many of the businesses. An example is T.E. Collings, an ironmongers and electrical shop established by Thomas Elijah Collings. Other additional information where known is also included with each property.

Victoria RoadIn the 1970s a (Prohibition of Driving) Order was issued restricting direct vehicular access to Victoria Road from the High Road. This came into force on 07/11/1977. In 1977/78 a new road (B148, West Mayne), linking Laindon to the A127 Dunton Wayletts flyover, was constructed between Manor Road and Victoria Road from a new junction with the existing High Road roundabout.

Other points of interest:

1) In 1970 a section of Denbigh Road from its junction with High Road was renamed Wrexham Road during the construction of the Laindon industrial estate. By around 1973/74 vehicular access to Wrexham Road ended when High Road was realigned during the construction of the Laindon 4 (Great & Little Oxcroft) housing estate.

2) The even number property identification was in use from the early 1920s though probably dates from the late 1890s/early 1900s when the first buildings near the railway station end were constructed.
