Dunton Plotlands In the 1930s a rural
residential community began to establish itself at Dunton Hills on former agricultural land auctioned off in 'plots' to the highest bidder. A typical
plot measured 120" x 20", which was very generous. Constructing the properties, many of which were timber framed with asbestos walls, often necesitated regular visits
to the High Road in Laindon where there were many builders merchants and ironmongers like Churchill Johnson, Carey Brothers and T.E. Collings, who generally
had whatever was needed to get the job done. |
