Northland's Park was created by Basildon Development Corporation in the
early 1970s on land that had once formed part of Felmore Farm. The park covers an area of around seventy acres and
during construction the land was transformed and landscaping, including artificial hills,
were created along with two lakes as part of a flood relief programme. Work on the lakes, which
have a depth of just over three feet and cover an area of around eight acres, began in 1972 and was
completed by 1974. They were purposely created to collect floodwater from nearby developments at
Fryerns and Chalvedon which in the case of Chalvedon was ongoing at the time. Basildon Council is responsible
for the park and lakes which are also used by anglers. The park borders East Mayne, Ashlyns and Felmores. Felmore farm which in the 1980s
had become empty and vandalised was finally demolished during the same decade. |
