Comments:

The Edge is a public house located at No. 6 High Pavement in Basildon Town Centre.

A public house has occupied this site since 1973 when The Heighway, as it was then known, opened as part of the larger 'Block S' development that saw the completion of the north side of Town Square.

In 1983 it became the New Yorker and featured live bands and the d.j. Mike Henry before a further name change to the Roof Garden, which lasted to 2010 and from then on it's been the Edge.

It is accessed either from a stairway/lift off Town Square or from the top floor of the Great Oaks multi-storey car park.

Notes:

1) Access from Town Square was originally via an escalator or stairway which served the whole of High Pavement and the Northgate House office block. In April 2004 a female pensioner died following an incident involving the escalator which was then closed and the area sealed off until 2010, by which time both the escalator and the original glass faced stairway had been removed and replaced with the present arrangement.
