| 01. Roll of Honour WW2 |
Posted by Jo Cullen on 24/1/2015, 7:15 pm
Basildon Heritage is compiling a Roll of Honour for the service men and civillians killed in WW2.
There are very few 2nd WW war memorials in the New Town Area, If you family lived in the area covered by the New Town and lived, worked or were born in the area at
the time of the WW2 and were either killed in action or as a result of enemy action please let us know the names. It is very important that we collect the names
of these people while there are still family and friends that remember them.

Jo I was born just before the war in Vange. I have been writing my memories of my life in the area of Five Bells. If you are interested you can get a copy from the
Wat Tyler park museum. If not I will send you a copy but I will need to know your e-mail address

Thanks Jack I have a copy and am a volunteer at Basildon Heritage Wat Tyler Park Green Centre. I have read your story and found it both entertaining and interesting
and regularly promote it to visitors from Vange

My grandfather, William Dixon, lived in Vange in the very early part of the 1900's with his wife, Isabella (Bella). He operated a butcher shop there.
I wondered if there were any documentation or history books that might mention him and his shop and activities while there. I think he might even have bred bulldogs
there as well.
Please contact me via email (as enclosed).

hi there - I'm a local lad making a documentary film about Basildon called New Town Utopia.
I'm looking for any old footage on film or video of the town from the
50s/60s/70s/80s.
If anyone knows of anyone that has some it would be great to find out!
Thanks
Chris

Would like to talk about what happened to me when this complex was built. This also involves Basildon council. If you are interested.

Bert Evans lived in Basildon and I am trying to find his relatives. His second wife was named Betty. I believe he had a grandson but have no names.
If anybody
knows/can help, I would be very grateful.

Don't know if this helps but I knew a Bert Evans who lived at No. 22 Spenders Close during the time I grew up there from 1955. I believe his wife was called Hilda
and he worked for the council.

Hi, Thanks Geoff.
Think that's probably him - I know he had a grandson but unsure of his name or where to find
him - we have something that I'm sure he'd love to receive but we need to find him first!
Thanks.

Are there any old members of the Armada football team. I was the goal keeper. My closest pal was Dave Marks known by all.
We had the Marksman Band playing at all
the shot gun weddings.
Be great to hear from anyone.

| 07. Princess Anne's visit to the Tractor Site, Cranes Farm Road |

As Commercial (Financial) Controller of all whole goods & parts sold in the UK & Republic of Ireland, I was nominated by my Italian director to be the first point of
contact with HRH to welcome her to our business, and introduce her to the multi-national directors responsible for sales & marketing.
BTW, it was not "The Ford Tractor Plant" then, as Ford sold out some years previously to FIAT, who then done deals with Case (tractors) & New Holland (Combine Harvesters, etc.),
to become the global Tractor & Harvester giant CNH "Case New Holland".
I retired early (in 1997) after 32 years service.

I'm trying to find any information about my Grandfather's family.
They moved to Basildon around 1940, and his sister Sylvia Helene Thompson was killed during a
bomb blast at 36 Gordon Road in February 1944, aged 10. She was buried at Holy Cross church. Her Grandparents Ellen and Stephen Thompson lived at 61 Gordon Road,
and Stephen was also buried at Holy Cross.
My Grandfather Peter Thompson was born in 1928, and we have a photograph of him and his sisters Greta and Sylvia when
they lived in Basildon. In 1949 he emigrated to Australia, his last address was Whitwell, Isle of Wight.
I'd love to piece together some information about my Grandfather's childhood, and would appreciate any information anybody has about life in Basildon in the 1940's.

Afternoon Natasha
Are you aware that your Grandfather sailed on the SS Cameronia part of the P & O Line. He embarked at the Port of Glasgow and his ticket got him to the Port of Melbourne,
Australia. The ship sailed on to Sydney.
Kind Regards
Tim
