01.  Basildon Rose Garden
Posted by Frank Fleming on 27/1/2017, 1:52 pm

I worked at this Garden centre from about 79-81, has anyone any idea what happened to it?

Have some great memories of the place and the people who worked there.

02.  Reid (Reed?) Avenue

Anyone remember this road? It was on the right hand side going up Burnt Mills Road. Just before the top of the hill.

There were some bungalows that looked out on to a grassy field. Home to an old Nevendon School mate of mine.

03.  17th Century Fair - Markhams Chase

Does anyone remember the 17th Century Fair that took place in Basildon and what year it was?

I think it was about the 1970's and was at Markhams Chase field.

I have found a small number of photos from the 1960's (varying quality/state) of my time in the air cadets. I cannot put names to faces.

Is there any way to share these? Is anyone interested?

There are also some from the carnivals and of the pond/lake at Gloucester park.

Sorry, those names don't ring any bells.

05.  St. Margaret's School
Posted by Pat Millard on 9/7/2017, 10:17 am

I am researching my schooldays. I am interested in my time at St. Margarets from 1939-40 and 1944-46.

If anyone remembers being there at these times I would be interested to hear from them. Also I lived in Pound Lane during these times in a bungalow called Zum Zug, next door was a dairy and opposite a little general shop. I remember a huge bonfire in front of the shop celebrating the end of the war.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who lived there in those days.

Pat Millard.

06.  Roll of Honour WW2
Posted by Jo Cullen on 29/7/2017, 5:22 pm

Basildon heritage is compiling a Roll of Honour for all those killed in the Borough both civilian and military during WW2.

Basildon, Laindon, Langdon Hills and Pitsea do not have any war memorials with names of those killed.

If you know of anyone who was born lived or worked in the Borough and was Killed please contact us.

Today I met with a local family and was told that a family living in Pitsea during WW2 lost three sons. The surname was HART. I have not been able to identify them. Can any one help?

07.  Hilltop Rise, Dunton
Posted by Les Diggins on 15/10/2017, 9:24 am

Does anyone have any pictures or information about The Owl, a bungalow on the Hillcrest end of Hilltop Rise?

We used to go there between the mid 50s and mid 60s.

Anything would be greatfully received.
